SHAKIRA LOVES LYRICAL RIDDLES

Shakira can't always explain the meaning of her songs because sometimes she chooses lyrics because ''they rhyme''.
Shakira doesn't care if her lyrics don't make sense.
The Columbian singer - whose songs have included bizarre lines such as "I'm starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office" in current hit 'She Wolf' - admits she struggles to explain the meanings behind the words in her songs.
She is quoted by the Daily Telegraph newspaper as saying: "It's hard to explain my lyrics because sometimes I just write things because they rhyme. I found this metaphor, and I thought it made a lot of sense. Acoffee machine in an office has everybody's fingerprints on it. Sometimes I feel like that." Despite holding strong political views, Shakira deliberately doesn't air them in her music because she prefers songwriting to be relaxing.
She said: "Now that I have the chance to sit down with journalists, I can relax when it comes to music and not use it as another instrument of communication.
"When I write, my subconscious somehow finds its way to the surface. It's not such an intellectual process, it's more organic."
SHAKIRA'S MAGIC ROLE

SHAKIRA has conjured up a role on hit U.S. kids show WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE - in a role poking fun at herself.
The Whenever, Wherever hitmaker has appeared on the small screen before, starring in Colombian soap opera El Oasis in the 1990s, and she recently played herself on an episode of Ugly Betty.
And Shakira was delighted to be approached to appear on the hit Disney show - despite the mysterious nature of the part.
She tells U.S. TV show Access Hollywood, “Shakira doesn’t really exist. It’s a complicated thing, very creative. I’m actually making fun of myself. I think it's the first time and the last time. I had a great time on set, it was so fun - I'm actually quite funny!"
And she is full of praise for the show's teenage star Selena Gomez, adding: “She’s a good, talented artist. She has a great voice... the whole cast made me feel at home. They’re great.”
SHAKIRA CALLS FOR UNIVERSAL EDUCATION IN OXFORD SPEECH

SHAKIRA has followed in the footsteps of stars including MICHAEL JACKSON and JON BON JOVI by addressing students at England's prestigious Oxford University - using her speech to call for better access to education across the world.
The Hips Don't Lie hitmaker stood up in front of an audience at the institution's famed Union on Monday night (07Dec09) to talk about her role as an ambassador for charity UNICEF and her own The Barefoot Foundation, which aims to improve education for impoverished children.
The singer thanked the students for taking the time to listen to her talk, and went on to address the topic of universal access to education.
She said, "I am somewhat mystified as to why you are here because there won't be any singing, any hip shaking whatsoever.
"I was born in Colombia, growing up in the developing world where education is perceived as a luxury and not as birthright. So how do I go from Barranquilla, Colombia, come to occupy the same stage as Newton, Churchill? Lord knows, I am no Mother Theresa. But here I am nonetheless. My career gives me an enormous opportunity to communicate issues that I believe strongly should be communicated."
